Last summer I turned 21!! It was a lot of fun, but I’m really not excited about getting older.
A lot of people asked me if I wanted to go to Las Vegas for my birthday, but if I’m being honest that sounded like my worst nightmare. I truly think the only thing I would truly enjoy is the food and Cher. But I figured if people were willing to go west they might as well keep going all the way to Napa Valley.
I’ve become a big fan of wine. Especially living in France and Italy its become a real love of mine. The idea of going to Napa quickly became one of my travel goals!
Let me tell you Napa really lived up to the hype. I’ve said before that I love small towns and the Napa area really felt like one!
We were in Napa only for four days but I definitely could have stayed a lot longer. We stayed at the beautiful Meritage Resort & Spa. We didn’t have any winery tours booked for the day that we landed, so we just hung out at their pool and then later took a car to downtown Napa! We had drinks at a rooftop bar and then a great Italian dinner!
Our first full day we had two winery’s that we wanted to go to. The first was Schramsberg Vineyards. They are known for their sparkling wines. We opted for their cave tours, which I highly recommend. We learned a lot about the history of Napa and their winery, their process of making wines, and the tour guide was so much fun! Next we did a tasting a Chandon. This was really nice because, we got to sit outside and take our time with the different wines and have appetizers.
Our second day we decided to start our day in St. Helena. Next time I go I want to spend more time there! They have so many cute restaurants and shops. Our first winery was Rombauer Vineyards. I was really excited about this one because it is owned by the family of Irma Rombauer who wrote the Joy of Cooking. The view from the tasting room was breathtaking! Next we were told to go to Castello di Amorosa. It’s a really unique experience, it’s a castle. There are farm animals all around and so many flowers.
All in all this was probably one of my favorite birthdays! I really can’t wait to go back to Napa!
